This is an online resource to help track the wellbeing of our communities, where we are doing well, and where our communities may be facing challenges. Perth and Huron are similar in many ways to other rural communities in southwestern Ontario, but are distinctive in some ways too. This resource allows citizens to explore these similarities and differences.
Traditional measures of a community’s wellbeing measure large-scale economic activity, such as GDP ( Gross Domestic Product), this focuses on economic factors of national import and export figures, interest rates, corporate profits and unemployment rates. However, these are not enough, we would like to know how real life and real people who live in our community are doing, ways of growing as a strong community and options to improve.
For those reasons, we have incorporated knowledge from the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) and the Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs) to create the seven key indicators. These indicators develop a sense of belonging and contribute with the wellbeing of the community. These key indicators are Housing and Homelessness, Community Capacity, Community support, Economic, Healthy Population, Education, and Environment.
Rather than search information of different national sources with low probability to find local information, our site wants to provide a reliable place where you can explore good local information, discover trends, catch information from Perth and Huron sources – from local agencies and governments about local activities, articles and more.
This site is a work-in-progress and is being updated continuously. Check regularly to see what has been added.
Thanks for believing in us.
The key indicators we report on integrate knowledge from the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) domains, the Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs) indicators and the previous Quality of Life report created by SRPC, all together support the base and composition of the new key indicators. This concept creates opportunities to understand and measure the potential of our community actions, impact of strategies and investments in all sectors.
Within each key indicator, we report on a series of sub-indicators. Together, we create a community profile that provides evidence to achieve our community’s goals such as reducing inequality, promoting actions for gender inclusion, awareness-raising, and tools to build a better place for all.
The data has been gathered from a multi-sectorial partners on a variety of social areas to better understand the Perth-Huron complexity. National, Provincial and Municipal data has been collected overtime and now is time to present comparable pictures of the region, this includes the Town of St. Marys, the City of Stratford and the lower-tier municipalities within the counties, if available.
