Welcome to My Perth Huron

This is an online resource to help track the well-being of our communities, where we are doing well, and where our communities may be facing challenges. Perth and Huron are similar in many ways to other rural communities in southwestern Ontario but are distinctive in some ways too. This resource allows citizens to explore these similarities and differences.

Traditional measures of a community’s well-being measure large-scale economic activity, such as GDP (Gross Domestic Product), which focuses on economic factors of national import and export figures, interest rates, corporate profits, and unemployment rates. However, GDP is not enough. We would like to know how real people living in our community are doing, ways of building a stronger community, and options to improve.

For those reasons, we have incorporated knowledge from the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) and the Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs) to create the six key indicators including Housing and Homelessness, Community Capacity, Economic, Healthy Population, Education, and Environment. Together, these indicators create a sense of belonging and contribute to the well-being of the community.

Rather than search information from different national sources with a low probability of finding local information, our site’s goal is to provide a reliable source of good local information and discover trends by capturing information from Perth and Huron agencies and governments about local activities, articles and more.

This site is a work-in-progress and is being updated continuously. Check regularly to see what has been added.

Thanks for believing in us.

Key Indicators

The key indicators integrate knowledge from the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) domains, the Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs) indicators, and the previous Quality of Life report created by SRPC. This concept creates opportunities to understand and measure the potential of our community actions and the impact of strategies and investments in all sectors.

Within each key indicator, we report on a series of sub-indicators. Together, we create a community profile that provides evidence to achieve our community’s goals such as reducing inequality, promoting actions for gender inclusion, raising awareness and tools to build a better place for all.

Data has been gathered from multi-sectorial partners in a variety of social areas to better understand Perth-Huron's complexity. National, Provincial and Municipal data has been collected over time and forms a comparable picture of the region including the Town of St. Marys, the City of Stratford, and the lower-tier municipalities within Perth and Huron if available.
